You guessed it hijab means headscarf. I don't know why all those other news organizations use the word hijab instead of headscarf. Maybe it makes it sound like some kind of religious and sacred stuff. Anyway let's just loook at this headscarf for muslim girls movement.
Here is the headline of the day:
BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Headscarf row hides deeper issues
"After 40 years or so, France's mainly north African Muslim immigrants have still not assimilated or become purely French in the way previous generations of immigrants of other creeds did, and that worries many here." Ooops! What is going on here? American liberals love French and the French are dissing multiculturalism and talking about assimilating other cultures! Well this is a side issue and we'll leave that to American liberals to come to terms with.
I wrote about this before. Some muslim girls in western countries demand that they should be allowed to wear their headscarves when they attend to schools. You know, I did not hear these kind of demands by Afghani muslim women from islamist taliban government. Oh! I remember, they were not allowed to attend schools or get any kind of education. That was part of islamic rule I thought. So what is happening here? When these islamists move to western countries, they reject all western values except having their daughters get education. That does not make sense.
"Even mainstream MPs such as Jacques Myard of the governing centre-right UMP express themselves in language which in more multicultural societies might be seen as somewhat intolerant.
"A lot of Muslim girls say that they wear the headscarf freely," he says.
"But in fact when you look at it carefully you will see that they are in some cases, in fact in most cases, motivated by religious fundamentalists and if you give them just a bit of a finger they will eat up your arm up to the elbow.
"So we have to be strict and very adamant - and say this is the way things are in France.""
Hey even the French are coming to their senses.
Look how a muslim girl explains why she wears a headscarf:
"She argues that in fact, the headscarf is a vital part of her identity - and not something which gives her second class status as a woman, as some French insist.
"From the point of view of a Muslim, the reverse is true - for us the headscarf is a symbol of liberation, because with this scarf a woman can go out and live alongside men, without regard to her sex.
"It eases the relationship between men and women. I am equal to man because of what is in my head, not because of what is on my head.""
If someone can clarify this nonsense, please feel free to do so. It brings up a great question that nobody is asking: Why are muslim women required to cover themselves?
This how CAIR answers the question:What about Muslim women?
"Under Islamic law, women have always had the right to own property, receive an education and otherwise take part in community life. Men and women are to be respected equally. The Islamic rules for modest dress apply to both women and men equally. (Men cannot expose certain parts of their bodies, wear gold or silk, etc.) If a particular society oppresses women, it does so in spite of Islam, not because of it."
Sounds reasonable? Well that is what we would expect from a propaganda machine. Let's go to the other end of the spectrum and check out the Faith Freedom International's faq:
"Do you know wherefrom the injunction of veiling in Islam come from? It comes from the fact that Muhammad in his old age accumulated a harem of a score of teenagers who where the most beautiful women around. He knew that if young men lay eyes on his gorgeous wives they would desire them. That is why he ordered them to cover themselves...."
We can always go to islamonline.net and ask about islam. Someone had already asked about hijab. If you read the complete answer by clicking on the previous link you'll find that Faith Freedom International's explanation was closer to the truth. You will also sense that a great effort has been made to show that covering of muslim women actually liberates them, not oppresses them.
Why don't we go straight to Qur'an and read a chapter about women. Here are some excerpts:
"Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice." -- Cool! So men can marry up to four women!
"Allah enjoins you concerning your children: The male shall have the equal of the portion of two females..." -- And when it comes to inheritance, one man is as good as two women?
"And as for those who are guilty of an indecency from among your women, call to witnesses against them four (witnesses) from among you; then if they bear witness confine them to the houses until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them." -- I do not know what kind of indeceny is mentioned here or what kind of a way Allah may open to those people but it sounds pretty harsh.
"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all)." -- Any woman who wants to convert to islam, read this first.
"Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject Faith Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against the friends of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan." -- So all non-muslims are actually working for Satan?
Three different translations and it still is very hard to understand. No wonder there are millions of people out there who call themselves muslims who never ever read the Qur'an in their own language.
